History and New Futures

Founding Father
  • Eno Laget (I)

2.5" x 6", pochoir on legal tender, 2020.

Artist Statement

I make many works with pochoir (stencil) on legal tender. Many prints are already in circulation. Official government-sanctioned portraits of notable Americans are generally taken for granted and rarely critically considered for the state or quality of conforming to conventionally accepted standards of behavior or morals that are constantly reinforced by public honor and display.

Artist Bio

Eno Laget works as an independent artist in Detroit, Michigan. For the past dozen years he has operated a mobile, limited-resource printmaking experience dedicated to the pochoir (stencil) process. His Two Blacks Studio teaches multi-color stencil making and printing as a community-based, socially conscious creative outreach. He is a resident artist at Recycle Here, a resource recovery facility in the NW Goldberg neighborhood of Detroit. He is also a member of the artist/maker collective Make:Art:Work and the faith-based One Arts Collective in Detroit.
